What is the HCG “Diet” and how does it work? |
You may have heard about the very popular HCG “Diet” lately. Recent radio and television advertisements have claimed you can lose 20 lbs in 20 days. Is it too good to be true? Does it really work?
HCG seems like magic when it comes to getting rid of that unwanted body fat. The hypothalamus is the part of the inner brain responsible for the storage and utilization of fat and controlling your metabolism. When we eat more food than we can metabolize, the hypothalamus stores it as fat it can access later in times of emergency. There are two types of fat that are stored, normal fat (the padding on our hands and feet, the fat layer under our skin, etc.) and structural fat (the fat that holds up and cushions our organs). Both of these types of fat are important and essential so the body will only utilize those fat stores in times of emergency, for instance when a person is starving or when we exercise too strenuously without eating enough calories to compensate. The hypothalamus can get overtaxed and stop working properly. There are numerous reasons why the hypothalamus stops working properly, from our diet, to toxins, or to a genetic weakness. When the hypothalamus isn’t functioning correctly, our metabolic levels decrease. Because our normal fat stores are already at a maximum, the excess food we eat starts getting stored as abnormal fat. This is the fat that we don’t like to see - our love handles, bellies, etc. According to Dr. Simeons’ research it is almost impossible for the body to access the abnormal fat under normal circumstances. It will go after your normal fat and structural fat before it goes after the abnormal fat. The missing key to getting rid of the abnormal fat is HCG. HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadatropin) is a hormone found in trace amounts in men and women alike but pregnant women produce mass amounts of it. HCG, produced by the pituitary gland, is found in trace amounts in men and women alike. A pregnant woman produces mass amounts of HCG. In the 1950’s Dr. Simeons observed pregnant women in India that were starving and emaciated, carry and deliver healthy babies. He discovered that HCG allows the hypothalamus to function at a higher level utilizing the body’s fat stores to give the mother and baby the needed fuel and nutrients. This is the premise behind the HCG “Diet”; increase your HCG production and eat a low calorie diet. Because you are decreasing your caloric intake, your body will be searching for fuel and energy and will start utilizing your abnormal fat.
