Methylation – Healing at a Genetic Level
Methylation is a vital metabolic process that happens in every cell in every organ in your body over a billion times a day! You could not exist without it. It happens when one molecule passes a methyl group, which is a carbon atom linked to three hydrogens, to another molecule.
Methylation is when your body takes nutrients from the food you eat and converts (methylate) it into substances needed for all the processes in your body. It makes things like creatine, carnitine, CoQ10, melatonin and many, many other important chemicals, enzymes and substances in your body.
How does Methylation Affect My Body?
Methylation can affect almost every tissue and organ system in your body because it is working on the most fundamental processes in your body.
- It influences the production of ATP, which is your cellular energy source. If you can’t produce ATP, your body won’t have enough energy and your mitochondrial function begins to break down.
- It influences your brain function and production of neurotransmitters. If you don’t methylate properly, you see problems with ADD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, etc…
- It affects detoxification. Proper methylation is key to glutathione production which is vital to optimal detoxification. If your body has problems with methylation you become more likely to have problems with heavy metal toxicity and the glutathione isn’t available to clear the toxins out. These toxins can also block key methylation pathways which starts a vicious cycle in our bodies.
- It affects your body’s ability to prevent many health problems and diseases.
- It protects your genes and DNA every time a copy is made, which is millions of times per day. If the copies are left unprotected, they can be damaged and mutated which can lead to many health problems, including cancer and formation issues in a developing baby.
- It affects gut health and the digestion process. Proper methylation produces enzymes and other nutrients that are vital to these systems in our body.
What Affects my Methylation Ability?
Essentially there are two categories that affect your methylation:
- Genetics – You may be missing some genes or have some mutated genes that are inhibiting your methylation abilities.
- Environmental Factors – Your lifestyle may also be contributing to your methylation cycles being disrupted.
- Diet/Nutrition
- Exposure to toxins – from the food we eat, to body care products and cleaning products to the air we breathe.
- Stress
How Can Soli Help?
- Soli’s Functional Methylation Analysis™. Most of us are missing genes or have mutated genes that cause our methylation pathways to break down and functions to go awry. With genetic testing, we can determine where your methylation pathways are breaking down and which nutrients are needed to keep them working smoothly.
- LifeStyle Coaching. Schedule time with our LifeStyle Coach to identify sources of toxin exposure. We can then help you with healthier and natural alternatives to keep your methylation cycles functioning at optimal levels. We can also teach you some stress management techniques to help decrease your stress levels.
- Zyto Bio-Feedback. Using a bio-feedback computer called the Zyto Elite, we can test thousands of toxins to determine which ones are affecting your body. After determining which ones are interfering with your body’s ability to heal and repair, we will then give you some homeopathic drops which will aid your body in detoxing them.
- Detox Footbaths. With the toxic overload your body is under, it is important to help it with the detoxification process. Detox footbaths are one of our favorite ways to improve the detoxification ability of your cells by recharging the mitochondria and detox system.
