Leaky Gut Syndrome

shutterstock_224093191Leaky Gut Syndrome is caused by your good bacteria getting diminished due to chronic inflammation and an overgrowth of candida (yeast), fungus and bad bacteria. This overgrowth of bacteria then causes more inflammation and creates holes that allows toxins and food to “leak” through your inflamed intestinal tract getting into your bloodstream. Since these toxins and foods are not supposed to be outside your gut, your body mounts and immune response and attacks them. These attacks play a role in the development of autoimmune diseases of all kinds.

A condition called Dysbiois is also commonly present when you have Leaky Gut Sydrome. Dysbiosis is when the whole spectrum of bad bacteria produce penicillin that they (bad bacteria) are resistant to causing the overgrowth of bad bacteria to proliferate which keeps the good bacteria (which may not be resistant) from being able to grow back.  It is a vicious cycle and is important to be aware of because over half your immune system is maintained and over half your neurotransmitters and brain chemicals are made in your gut! If the balance of good versus bad bacteria in your gut is not correct, your immune system and brain cannot function at optimal level. This is a big deal!

How does Leaky Gut Affect My Body?

Leaky Gut can affect your body in diverse ways, including:

  • Immune System
  • Brain Health
  • Skin problems like eczema or psoriasis
  • Heart failure
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Mental illness
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Depression

What Causes Leaky Gut?

Unfortunately, a lot of components of our lifestyles contribute to an unhealthy gut:

  • Antibiotics and other medications like NSAIDs
  • Chronic Stress
  • Chronic Infections and Inflammation
  • Refined carbohydrates, sugar and processed foods
  • Lack of proper methylation

Antibiotics are particularly harmful to the gut flora. Studies have shown that antibiotic use causes a profound loss of diversity of the flora and is not recovered after antibiotic use without intervention.

What Can I Do to Heal It?

  • Eat fermented foods like kefir, sauerkraut, kim chi, yogurt, etc…
  • Take a high quality probiotic
  • Treat intestinal pathogens (such as parasites) that may be a contributing factor
  • Take steps to manage your stress
  • Remove gluten and process dairy from your diet

How Can Soli Help?

  • Genetic Methylation Testing. With genetic testing, we can determine where your methylation cycles are breaking down and which nutrients are needed to keep them working smoothly. Methylation is required for the intestinal cells to produce enough energy to work properly. It is critical for the entire digestive process to being and for hydrochloric acid to be produced which triggers the entire breakdown of nutrients so they can be absorbed. The stomach, liver, gallbladder and pancreas are all directly affected by breakdowns in the methylation cycles. Methylation in cells of liver and intestinal tract allows for the removal of massive amounts of toxins which keeps intestinal inflammation under control.
  • LifeStyle Coaching. Schedule time with our LifeStyle Coach to determine which of the above factors may be contributing to your Leaky Gut and implement an action plan to heal it.
  • Zyto Bio-Feedback. Using a bio-feedback computer called the Zyto Elite, we can test hundreds of foods and allergens to determine which ones are affecting your body. After determining which ones are interfering with your body’s ability to heal and repair, we will then give you some homeopathic drops which will aid your body’s response to them.
  • Allergy and Sensitivity Reduction. Using the information we get from the Zyto, we can customize an approach to reprogram your nervous system to not react the same way to the provoking substances causing your allergies and sensitivities. A key to healing Leaky Gut is to reduce the nervous system’s allergy/sensitivity response which helps to reduce the inflammation. We have also discovered a connection between methylation and a histamine allergy response in the body. Methylation is required to break down histamine (which triggers much of our allergy response) so that we don’t get an overload in our body because an overload causes a sensitivity reaction and an allergy response when you eat foods that contain histamine.
  • Detox Footbaths. With the toxic overload your body is under, it is important to help aid it with the detoxification process. Detox footbaths are one of our favorite ways to do so and will help your body dispose of the toxins that “leak” through your intestinal lining.
